AAPI Mothers Support Group
Open to AAPI mothers looking for solidarity, connection, and emotional support.
About AAPI Mothers Support Group
This group began in October 2022 to create a space where mothers who identify as AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) can find support for their pre- and early motherhood experiences. Over the years, our group has remained committed to addressing the gaps that Mothers of Color face in an inherently oppressive society, especially when it comes to navigating systems that overlook their unique health and wellness needs. We welcome AAPI mothers and femme parents of all gender, ethnic, socioeconomic status, and immigration status identities.
We believe ALL AAPI mothers deserve a space for solidarity, support, and healing.
Our meetings are structured as open, drop-in peer support groups facilitated by a licensed therapist. Each session’s topics are shaped by the experiences and needs that members bring to the group.
We meet twice a month, every 1st and 3rd Thursday, from 12-1:15pm Pacific Time. 1st Thursdays center "older kid" moms & 3rd Thursdays center perinatal/pregnant/postpartum mom (and, ALL moms are welcome anytime!)
FAQs
-
The facilitator typically holds a similar structure each time, beginning with grounding in shared objectives and our social justice lens and then inviting participants to introduce any topics they want for discussion/support.
-
We're not always in the mood to talk, and that's ok! Listening and learning from others is encouraged, always. While we believe in the value of voicing our own experiences in this space, we also respect any reasons why it may not feel right for you that day.
-
Yes and no. The group was founded with the belief that AAPI mothers matter and deserve our own space to talk about all things related to our experiences. Topics brought up may explicitly relate to being AAPI, while there will be other times when the relevance of being AAPI is more implicit or just in the background.
In any case, as Audre Lorde said, "There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives.” In this group, you are always invited to reflect on how your identity as an AAPI-identified person intersects with your experience as a mother, and to share those insights with others... because that's how we form solidarity and community!

You're welcome to join if and whenever you are able! Same goes for if you can't stay for a whole meeting. We realize mothers are busy people, and we welcome you to come and leave as you need.
-
That's totally ok — this is an open, drop-in group. Feel free to join if and whenever you are able.

Of course, mama!
